Did the Smithsonian really put this out? These are amazing.
Are these real?
If these are real then someone deserves a promotion
So I don’t know if these are real or not, because trying to Google them to post instead of reblogging turned up little result.
Here’s why I didn’t want to reblog: I didn’t want anyone to think I was attacking them.
Here’s why that might seem like a thing I was doing: I gots a problem with one?
I really like the idea of comparing historical figures to current prominent figures in media. I love the idea of bringing history into a modern context. I like Hark, A Vagrant!, which does that exact thing quite a bit - it’s probably my favorite webcomic.
But the thing is, Genghis Khan didn’t ‘get with so many chicks’ - he raped a TON of women. Like….he’s probably (?) the most prolific rapist in history. That’s why 5% of the world is related to him. Because he raped his way across the continent, and yeah, sure, he pulled together the Silk Road out of it, and cultural exchange, and trade, and Mongolian culture had some points at the time that were actually progressive compared to everyone else, but that doesn’t mean that he was some fucking Don Juan at whose feet all them ladies did swoon. He committed unthinkable numbers of atrocious acts.
And Bret Michaels, while a douche-bag, probably should be affronted at the comparison.
Historically brilliant. Bravo for taking the boring (sorry Grade 7 history teacher!) and making something brilliant out...
